I need to create a data feed of precious metal prices (gold, silver, platinum and palladium) in the form of a JSON file that is then fed to my apps. The issue that I face is that currently the prices are scraped from a particular website , but the website keeps changing and then the feed breaks. I would like a scrape set up that tries a number of different sources to get the price in the event that one fails. One source would be to google "the gold price" then collect it from the google page. I would like to hear your ideas on how I can create the right feed. Payment will be made once feed has been uploaded to my server and implemented by my app developers to show it works there. Hi Andrew, My idea about your project is to create a list of 10-20 (or more) websites which provide the cotations, and scrape it one by one if the first one fails or is changed by owners. In this way you do not depend by only one website and you can have the accurate information in your app. Also we can make an alert if on 2 websites the gold price is different in the same day. Hi Andrew I can make such script for you. I think best is to make php script which will be executed automatically, scan 3-4 different sources, compare prices and make json file. If any sources fail, it can send email to you that one of the sources fails. In this case you or your admin will know one of the sources fails and will have enough time to fix it, while other sources works. I think making google as one of the sources is very good idea, as google rarely change design. I will need to know structure of json file your app required, best is example json file if you can send one to me. Andrew. Hello, I'd recommend not to rely on Google but on a set of trusted sites. I know that requires a little research on your side but once you find the sites publishing the info you need we can automate a tool for scrapping the values from all of them and even come up with an average value to post to your site.
