WYSIWYG Editor Enhancement

My application uses a number of custom HTML-like tags which act as placeholders for data and functionality rendered at run-time, much like you might see in a content management application. To aid the end-user, I need to enhance an existing WYSIWYG editor to enable the creation, insertion, and editing of these tags. This should all occur on the client-side via Javascript and DHTML. Each tag will have its own "designer" - an HTML form enabling the end-user to set the tag's property values. The designers should be modal windows. However, I realize cross-browser issues can make this a daunting task. I am open to alternative suggestions (like, perhaps, loading the designer into a floating IFrame or simulating modal (or modeless) dialogs). Depending on the tag, values can be text, numbers, dates, HTML, or even Javascript. The coder will design a system that enables these designers to be shown via a Javascript call. When the user has completed the designer and submits the form, the designer's data is sent to the host page via a callback function. The host page will be responsible for storing that data for later retrieval when the tag is edited and also for ensuring the data is ready to be sent to the server when the user is finished editing. The host page is also responsible for inserting a visual marker (like an image) into the WYSIWYG editor representing the tag. Clicking that markerwill pop up the tag's designer, pre-populated with the tag's values. When the designer is submitted, the tag's data will be updated accordingly. When the user is finished editing and clicks the Save button, the server will link the tag data with the with the markers and create the appropriate tags. Integration of this code with the WYSIWYG editor is not required of the coder. However, the coder must supply an API that can be used to facilitate integration. The coder is not responsible for any server-side coding. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) All code, with the exception of code used to integrate with the WYSIWYG Editor and its host page, must be in separate "library form", i.e. files that can be included via the "src" attribute of a SCRIPT tag. b) All code must be documented, either in a separate document or via comments within the code. The documenation should explain the purpose of each function. Additional comments in the code should explain lines or areas of code that may not be readily apparent to a non-Javascript programmer. Examples of this would include code to ensure cross-browser compatibility and code designed for performance rather than readability. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). ## Platform Internet Explorer 5+ (Windows) W3C DOM-compliant Browsers such as Mozilla, Firefox, etc. on both Windows and Mac.
