If the Employee last name has less then 5 letters then that is the reason for an error. What would you want that field to do if it has less then 5 letters. Donna

Hi, There is a small issue in the formula. Please use as below. Left(nz(EMP_LastName,""),5) Just add nz(). If field value is null then its throw the error.

Please, take as an example this line an probe if it function: Left([Table1]![Field1];5) & Left([Table1]![Field2];5) You change the , for a ; between the field and the long you need.
