We're Rewild City a startup focused on proving technology solutions (based on Cloud, Data & AI) to solve climate change challengues. Brand brief: "First, because rewilding is becoming a hot topic. More and more rewilding initiatives are coming to life and both research and policy seem to pay more attention to it. One example is Rewilding Europe, a non-profit organization that was founded 10 years ago. Currently they are rewilding eight large areas across Europe. For example, they have projects located in the south of Portugal, as well as in the north of Sweden. So, with rewilding now emerging as a real option for many large natural areas, this is the moment to explore how we could apply the principles of rewilding to the urban context. Secondly, people all over the world are currently facing environmental problems. This environmental impact can specifically be devastating in large cities, where most people currently live. Think for example about heat waves in cities or the risk of flooding. Nature can offer solutions to these problems where they are needed the most: in our cities. One approach to accomplish this is urban rewilding. With urban rewilding natural processes are back as a key priority. Knowledge about urban rewilding can help you to mitigate the negative effects of climate change and make cities more resilient. Lastly, in the last centuries, we humans, dominated the world as if nothing could stop us. But in our triumph to dominate the world, we forgot just how much we depend on it. However, in the 21st century more attention than ever before has been put on how our lives depend on natural processes. We started to realize how the amazon region acts as the lungs of the world, how the disappearance of small insects has a huge impact on our food security and just how complex and interdependent the biological world around us is. This also highlights the importance of creating more room for natural processes which is key to (urban) rewilding. Learning more about urban rewilding will thus enable you to create more room for natural processes in the city! So, restoring our natural environment seems to become more important in the 21st century. But how does rewilding relate to that? What is rewilding and how could we apply it in the urban context?
