I also have 4 years of full-time work experience as an ML Engineer. My current research work is on Adversarial training of End-to-End Speech Recognition. There are two scenarios which we used for face recognition A. Training Based (ML Based): 1. Collect a lot of images 2. Find Image Vector and Train ML algorithm 3. Test and Validate Algorithm 4. Provide Test Image and Find Matching Images using ML Model Advantages : 1. Can train any Machine Learning or Deep Learning. 2. Higher Accuracy can be achieved by increasing dataset. Disadvantages : 1. Everytime we are adding image we need to retrain the model, which is time and resource consuming 2. Slow and money oriented. 3. High End Systems required(GPU) Applications: 1. Good for research B. Database Based (Feature Vector and Database Based): 1. Collect Single or Multiple Image of the Users. 2. Find Feature Vector 3. Save the Feature Vector into Database 4. Find Nearest Matching Feature Vector using Distance Matrix 5. Sorting Top Results Disadvantages : 1. Distance Based Calculation (no confidence score) 2. Not depended on ML Model for every query. ML Model is used only when creating feature vector Advantages : 1. No Training time required, just converting to feature vector and saving into db 2. Can query million images in fraction of seconds. 3. Scalable at any cost and requirements. 4. Can work on Low end Systems as well (CPU). Applications : 1. Face Based Attendance System(school, college and companies) 2. Customer reception (restaurants, hotels etc)
