I want to build a site related to health. We want an image that is both friendly and professional. [url removed, login to view] is already being used for a number of landing pages that are being fed traffic from PPC. So the contents can be seen from the landing pages, The landing pages work fairly well. They are all referenced from the links on the following address: [url removed, login to view]
What we are looking for is a design that our programmers can use to complete the site. Please let us see examples of your work and your suggestions for this project as well as your quote.
We have a test templates page [url removed, login to view] but are not happy with the look and feel of it. The reasons for that are expressed from an internal critique shown below.
Here's my honest opinion:
Do you find it attractive?
>> Not that much. I feel lack of graphics. We have all text everywhere. Consider using some text inside buttons/images. Look at the Join [url removed, login to view] button/image at the end of the blogpost here:

Do you like the three level tab?
I think the 3-level tab is not that bad but it doesn't align well with other tabs. Like we have second tab only 2 levels and then the Shopping Cart does not have any drop-down menu. I think the links inside the All About tab can all be put in the footer in one line. The Shopping Cart & Blog & Members links can be placed in some text-embedded images or inside some buttons placed elsewhere. See the Therapist Login, Join Us & Contact Us buttons on top right of www.Goodtherapy.org. What I mean is to have variation in design and not a monotonous design where we have everything in one format, in a very few color combinations.
Do you think the green background should be lighter (or a different colour)?
Yes, I always prefer white backgrounds as they usually match well with any color. So with white background we can have a variety of icons using different colors and looking attractive. This is what I mean:

Does it look professional?
In their individuality, the different parts look fine and professional. But overall, it doesn't seem that great. I think that's most probably because the whole design is a mixture of many people's work done independently. Like the template was taken from another site; the logo was probably designed by some second guy; the fonts & tabs designed by a 3rd guy. So that may be the real problem, but I am not sure.
How could it be improved?
I think it would be a good idea to hire a professional web designer to design everything. He should come up with several designs and several color combinations and then you should choose what looks best. I also think we should reduce text and use some images too; the ideal thing is to convey the message quickly without having user read lot of text. Like the Newsletter box on the right has lot of text. Instead, we can have some heading like 'News & Tips on Prostate Health. Free Subscription!' Something like this in clear, bold text with larger fonts.
I am sorry that I perhaps criticized a lot here. But I think a good web design is very important for us because we get lot of paid traffic. If we don't have a pleasing design where we can convey our message to the user within 5-10 seconds or at least grab his attention within 5-10 seconds, the user may leave quickly.
Of course I was talking about the graphics only, and didn't read much else on the Beta Prostate site.
I am not sure if you misunderstood what I wanted to show on the goodtherapy blogpost. Seems you are referring to the social media icons, which are meaningless I agree (but my employer wants them so I can't help). I was talking about this image:

But this one may also not be something you may need. I just wanted to show you what I meant by text embedded inside image; we can have more variety in the fonts/colors, etc this way. It depends on you what size the image you want.
