Java developer required to deliver a initial prototype for a web-based application. The focus is to develop the solution architecture and demonstrate basic functionality before we commit to full service development.
The project is part one of three phases
- Prototype application
- Full business functionality
- Look & feel
There is no requirement or expectation that all three phases will be awarded to the same individual/company.
The solution must be capable run on both Windows & Linux platforms using only open-source tools. The prototype needs to be able to operate on Windows 10 only.
The prototype will consist of 6 webpages. Web design is not required, full functionality and branding will be a later phases. Ajax services will also be required to allow a number of those webpages to update data on the server without requiring the page to be constantly refreshed.
Whilst not required of the prototype, the solution needs to be capable of being highly performant and scalable. An assessment of limitations should be included within your proposal.
Applicants are welcome to suggest architecture & design alternatives, although initial expectations are that Apache, Java and MySQL would be suitable. Shortlisted applicants will be provided with the SQL schema to enable them to refine their quote. Test data will be included.
Successful applicant will be expected to provide a limited amount of installation support (no more than 5 hours) which should be included in your quote; ideally this will be via TeamViewer and/or Skype.
Successful application will assign over all IPR and copyright. The deliverable will encompass the service source code as well as all dependent libraries and software.

Bidders should provide examples of the level of documentation to be provided.
Preference will be given to bidders using recognised development frameworks, source code repositories and test frameworks.
Bidders are required to provide a timescale for delivery, which should be no more than 60 days from award. The expectation is that the prototype will be delivered in at least three parts
- Application stack; welcome & logon pages
- Web-pages
- Ajax service
with part payments being released at each phase; 20% on part 1; 40% on part 2; 40% on part 3. Bidders are welcome to propose alternative schedules.
