I am in the United States Marine Corps. I am hoping to design a logo for my unit. I am the platoon commander for 2d Platoon, Alpha Company, 2d Assault Amphibian Battalion. I command 12 AAVs. These are basically floating tanks that transport infantry Marines from ship to shore. The battalion already has a logo/ mascot (which is outdated in my opinion). Our mascot is an alligator, and I was hoping to create a logo for my platoon that incorporates an alligator and several other key elements. I nicknamed my platoon "The Myrmidons" which were the fierce Greek warriors lead by Achilles. I would want an alligator standing upright (similar to that of the University of Florida's gator) on two legs. It will be facing to the left with an angry/aggressive demeanor. I want the shape of the body to vaguely resemble a "2" with the head/snout as the top portion, the body as the middle portion, and the tail as the bottom portion. In his right hand he will be carrying a spear which will run strait across 180 degrees, and in his left a Spartan-like shield with a very basic depiction of an ant with roman numerals around it (top view with its head toward the top of the shield). The reason for the ant is because myrmidon comes from the Greek word myrmex. I was envisioning that his right foot would be on the beach and the water with a wave crashing in between (as depicted in the attached sketch) to symbolize our ship-to-shore nature (much like the myrmidons in the movie Troy when they storm the beach). On the bottom in latin will be my platoon's motto: "Mors de Mari", meaning "death from the sea." In the background in the air will be three arrows heading toward the beach. The color of the gator will be green, the color of the shield will be either grey or a dull bronze. The ant will be black. The spear will be brown with a grey arrow head. the sand will be a sandy yellow. The water will be blue (or a combination of different blues. I intend on putting this design on T-shirts, stickers and military patches. The general design format will be similar to other military unit patches. I have attached my very rudimentary sketches of what I would like. Keep in mind that I want the gator to be standing the opposite direction in which I sketched it. I want it facing to the LEFT. The second attachment is what I would like the shield to be modeled after.

I have sketched out the alligator and the basic idea of the logo. However, the idea of having the whole body and the sand and water seems a bit too much to be fitted in the logo.
