Ms Access/VBA/SQL Developer with 20+ Years Experience

I have over 20 years experience building bespoke database applications using Ms Access, Visual Basic for Applications and SQL. My strategy is simple; listen to the clients requirements; build a concept 'shell' ensuring that it matches their specifications before building a full working version. I test each function and module in parallel (v-Scale Modelling) before User Acceptance Testing. I can document the project both as a technical map and jargon free processes. My work with Schaeffler Automotive Aftermarket involved several high profile projects including a cataloguing tool the the tractor department. This went on to be dispatched to over 20,000 customer worldwide. The Sales Tracker project gained the attention from the Director Of Strategic Planning for Western Europe. It involved extracting 40 Millions+ records from SAP using RFC function calls. The tool evolved to make key decisions regarding stock control, Pareto rankings, warranty control and KPI's.

As with all of the databases I develop, I try to make the project future proofed where possible. To do this I provide each client with a database where settings can be altered. Depending on the project, depends on the settings but I tend to have a table that stores the lists for each combo box (drop down list box). For this reason, the client has the ability to keep their data succinct by forcing the user to select from a predefined list. Whilst I give the admin user the ability to edit and change those lists which means they are not restricted to grow or have new ideas.

As with all of the databases I develop, I try to make the project future proofed where possible. To do this I provide each client with a database where settings can be altered. Depending on the project, depends on the settings but I tend to have a table that stores the lists for each combo box (drop down list box). For this reason, the client has the ability to keep their data succinct by forcing the user to select from a predefined list. Whilst I give the admin user the ability to edit and change those lists which means they are not restricted to grow or have new ideas.

As with all of my database, I use the power of Ms Access to ensure data integrity. Each table contains a primary key, indexed accordingly. The foreign key is related to its primary key using cascading updated records and deleted records. This keeps the data robust, eliminating any potential 'orphan' records. The following is the relational structure for the Pattern Grading Database.

The client require the means to store hundreds of questions and multiple choice answers in a database. For GDPR reasons they didn't store the patients personal details, only the medication, medical condition and answers to 140 questions. Each question belonged to it's own classification. Job Tasks - Each worksheet added to the database required a date and time stamp, it's current status, who was currently working on the worksheet and where in it's production cycle it was. Colour coding helped visualise 'at a glance' the time period each worksheet belonged to. They also required a number of filters such as by Customer, Time Period, Date, Garment Type, etc. Each worksheet would only be visible for the current day, whilst admin staff may require looking at historical data. For that reason, only Admin level security could see beyond the current day.

The client required the ability to store Customers, Worksheets and a Job Task screen. Each worksheet would be loaded with a vast amount of data, including Garments, Sizes, Current Tasks per worksheet, additional costs and numerous other values that would require complex calculations to produce a final invoice. Each list had the option to be updated from Database Settings, including new Users, Admin rights, Pricing Structures, etc.

Selecting A Report - Each customer would require one of several reports to be created. This was dependent upon whether the client was added to Estate Planning or Trust Administration. Each report referred to a predefined Word document that contained several bookmarks. The user would first search and select a batch of clients from which the reports should be based upon. They would then select the report from the treeview list was dissected into it's appropriate trust type (Estate Planning or Trust Admin). A further breakdown was based upon how many appointments the client had previously attended. Once the report was run, the bookmarks would be populated with each clients details and saved to a folder designated in the database settings.

Senior Developer for the Technical Dept. I developed 15+ applications during my employment. The Tractor Catalogue tool was shipped out to over 20,000 customers. The Sales Tracker project was very successful. This involved extracting data from SAP. The final product gained interest from the Director of Strategic Planning for Western Europe. The tool was used in making key decisions on over 500 products. The data became so large that the data was store in SQL and Access was used as a front-end.
