Plate heat exchangers are of primary importance for many technical applications. In this work new geometrical parameters are introduced to calculate the pressure drop of the distribution zone. The resulting correlations with new parameters include the pressure drop of both corrugated field and distribution zones.

To use PHE effectively it is necessary to calculate the pressure drop correctly.. In this work new geometrical parameters are introduced to calculate the pressure drop of the distribution zone. The resulting correlations with new parameters include the pressure drop of both corrugated field and distribution zones. This new three-component model for hydraulic resistance show good agreement with experimental data for PHEs in turbulent flow regime.

Plate heat exchangers (PHEs) are widespread in different technical fields, namely, in energetics, chemical industries, the food industry, and others. For the correlation of data for the heat transfer in the PHE, usually the following equation is used: Nu = CRe^nPr^m(μ/μwall) In this transitional area the exponent n changes very strongly, and it cannot be considered as a constant. As a solution, in this work an empirical correlation for the dependence n(Re) is suggested.
