Dear Sir: It would be best if you use Visual Basic for user front end and Microsoft Access or SQL database as Data container. Microsoft Access is very much portable, maintenance free easy to handle for the normal user. Crystal Report for reporting section. The whole project can be complete just with Microsoft Access but I don't recommend that as Microsoft Access do not provide flexibilities, user-friendly operation, and stabilities. On the other hand with Visual Basic Application, you'll have flexibilities for data searching, data entry and manipulation, queries and most of all best user-friendly environment. Personally, I would like to develop this software base on Visual Basic and either Microsoft Access Database or SQL server. If Microsoft Access used for the database in that case portabilities will be high as everything can be included in one package installer. What you have to do is just click on the installer file and your software installed and ready to use. (I am talking about Microsoft Windows, not MAC OS). I can guarantee you that I can provide you bug-free / trouble free this application that you'll be able to use lifetime without any technical support.
