I am in need of a small piece of software to be installed on computers running Windows that does the following. 1. Listens to a com port for input from a barcode scanner. 2. When a barcode is received, submit the barcdoe along with a few other variables to a url which will return several pieces of data to be displayed to the user. The url is pre existing and is not part of this project. 3. This piece of software is replacing an existing piece of software and as such will need to read 4 text files that contain the port number to listen to along with three other variables to be submitted to the url. If the software is being installed on a new machine, it will need to prompt for the 4 variables and store them so they can be loaded each time the software is run. 4. The software should install a shortcut on the desktop to the software 5. The url and the location of the existing configuration files will be disclosed

Hello, I'm a C# developer for more than 5 years and so far I've worked on several desktop applications including the ones that requires communicating with the server (using the REST API) and processing the response. Further, I've also built installer programs for most of these applications using The WiX Toolset (please go through my portfolio for an example application). Some of these programs provide custom dialog box to obtain user information, create a desktop and start menu shortcuts, and even start the application after the installation is finished. As it seems that you want to develop a simple barcode application that sends data to a several and process the response, I would like to go through the details of the application and see if I can help you with the same.
