I want to propose a change in the way a manufacturing process is done. This process involves a robot that palletizes product, and it often runs into problems. I know what errors it commonly makes and have designed technology to solve MOST of the problems and detect ALL problems. So it would still require human interaction to fix things near the robot, but at least it will not throw product and damage the robot or later machinery anymore.
How does someone evaluate the cost savings benefit of a suggested change in a manufacturing process. Do I need estimates of costs for down time, or guesses as to how many times the robot has errors, versus how many times it would avoid errors and damage once I put my technology in place?
Please help me line up my ideas so that I can propose something to my company that they will understand from a business point of view.
No rush. And please be patient with me. This will be a teaching and back and forth situation. I am smart, but business and accounting and stuff is new to me.
It would be nice to also have some examples of business change suggestion proposals and cost savings spreadsheets, or WHATEVER you can think of that is done in a business setting.
