--Format for Brief Book Reviews: If you have not completed reading Robyn Spencer’s The Revolution Has Come, please do so before drafting the book review. Before drafting your book review research the following questions: • Who is the author? • What other books has he/she published? • Is she/he established in the field? Guidelines: You are expected to have 3 major parts to your book review. 1.) In the introduction, you must provide a general statement about your topic and directly indicate what your paper seeks to accomplish. Include one paragraph on the thesis and purpose of the book and one or two paragraphs summarizing the book. Organize your essay around the major arguments in the book. 2.) The paper’s body should include your review of the book. Consider what the book confirms, compliments, and contradicts what historians argue about the period or issue. (This will require you to do some additional research on secondary sources on the Black Panther Party using the Lehman library.) Please do not cover everything in the book. Instead, select two or three chapters to focus on. Review the notes and bibliography in the back of the book. What kinds of primary and secondary sources does the author use? 3.) The conclusion must summarize and indicate what steps you would take if you were going to complete a research paper on the topic. You can also address any omissions in the author’s book; however, it is not necessary. Your paper should be at most 4-5 pages, typed, double-spaced, in Times New Roman, with 12-point font, and 1-inch margins. You must include page numbers with your name, date, class name, and assignment title, and the full citation of the book at the top of the first page: Robyn C.
