Aluminium alloys and composites are commonly used in structural parts of aircrafts. A composite that I think is relevant here is a sandwiched aluminium honeycomb structure composite, designed to withstand high bending stresses, and be lightweight for application as aircraft panels. The node of the honeycomb structure is strengthened by increasing its diameter (superimposing a solid cylinder, centered on the node line), as failure usually propagates from this area. The honeycomb is filled with a polymer of good compression strength, and a low modulus. The appropriate material can be found through data analysis of a polymer database.
