Parsing Text File Using Python

Project Summary:

Parse a large text file for certain groups of Data.

Things I would like to extract:

• Lines that contain a certain range of numbers in one of the columns

• Columns that contain a specific header

• Lines that contain specific terms

• Selection criteria will be given an input text

I would like to be able to input my selection criteria into another text file that can be read into the code.

o I am picturing a text file where I have written out questions and people can type in the specific selection criteria following each question and this entire text file can be input into the code.

I would also like to be able to perform some mathematical functions such as averaging certain columns together along with the standard deviations.

The code should be written in more of a universal manner and not entirely specific to the sample text file so that I can continue to parse the parsed data even more if desired.

Finally, I would like the code to use extensive Python and annotate the code properly so that I am able to follow the code. (I am trying to learn Python myself)
