hello sir the reason why you're getting too much spam accounts is that someone is using automated scrip which is capable to skip your recaptcha (by help of a real human) did you enable phpbb email verification ?? one of the best solution I can provide to you is to log all ips which sends you registration request to your phpbb forum software and then block the ip which sends more than 5 registration request using ubuntu firewall theren's hundreds of other solutions I can help you with did you try to migrate to nodebb forum software ? please contact me and I'l solve your issue and I'll show you a lot of amazing stuff you can do with phpbb

Hi I faced this problem before, when recaptch not prevent spam email you can do some tips to prevent this fake emails, if u receiving emails daily it will be easy for us to see results
