Easy Magento Fix

Need experienced magento guru to fix a small issue on a website. Need to show subcategories with images and names on a page when clicked on main category. It was working perfectly on 1.7 but after upgrade to 1.9 now it shows blank area when clicked on main category. The website is running multiple store setup so this needs to be fixed for both websites. I tried to fix it myself but i got to show all products on a page like it normally works. Screen shots can be seen for both before and after below.
