App To Measure Water Flow
It’s a very simple app that, after setup/pairing - collects data from “the ring” and makes some very simple calculations. Then displays them on the screen and also exports the reports to CSV or Excel. It’s that simple.
Purpose:
An app that collects data from our device attached to a water pipe to measure water flow. The device is a ring that fits/goes around a standard ¾” water pipe hereafter referred to as “The Ring” (always liked The Lord of “the Ring(s)” so it seemed like fun).
This device is anything but fun. It’s for commercial companies that consume large amounts of water. The goal is to determine, isolate and monitor water lines finding the largest consumption/waste of water and hopefully reducing that largest waste of water.
One of the main users of this app would be golf courses that have many different irrigation zones that water the golf courses. Believe it or not, each 18-hole golf course uses about 1.2 million gallons of water per day). Needless to say, even a 10% reduction would be a big deal.
In other industries, like fab plants that have a need for heated water needs to be measured to demonstrate the need for more efficient ways to heat water quicker wasting less water. There are many other potential industries that can benefit from this technology. My goal is to make this device cheap enough to literally give it away- so we are looking for an app developer (paid) to help us out on this environmental endeavor.
It’s a very simple device that does not need to be glitzy. This is more of a utility not meant to impress anyone with aesthetics.
I’m going to use a golf course as an example as it’s the easiest to explain.
Requirements:
A. Detect the ring attached to the pipe via Bluetooth and then assign a name to the ring. For example, zone 1 for golf courses, they have hundreds of zones so put it a min of 7 digits(zones) to be safe. Example 49,000 zones
B. Input address info is optional except for the zip code- this is to pull water rates from the national database to compare the hopefully show savings
C. Gas or electric? The default is electric. This is for measuring power cost for manufacturing companies
D. Device measures the flow of water. The average water flow for a standard ¾ inch PVC pipe is 2.5 GPM (gallons per minute) and the nattinal average price per gallon is ¬¬¬¬0.04166 per gallon.
F. Calculate the electricity cost used - if the user does not know utility cost per - default is the national average of $.123 per kW
G. Average flow of water per zone is 10 minutes- so the default is 10 minutes
H. Set desired new time per zone - default is 5 minutes (hoping to cut it in half.
