The best option is to connect an stadard 2D scanner to the arduino though a serial port. It is easier because an adruino does not have the processing capabilities to decode a datamatrix or QR code by itself. For example, a raspberry pi 4 with a camera can decode datamatrix without problems. Then, it would easy to send that information to a ZPL compatible printer over the network but you need an Arduino Ethernet shield or similar. I can do it in that way!
