FILM DISTRIBUTION
Hi there,
I have a keen interest in breaking into Marketing Films.
However, most of my previous experience with Marketing has been in the Technology Industry. I have worked with Sales and Marketing teams at Intel and Broadcom.
For the last 3 years, I have consulted with several startups and early stage companies with their Product Strategy and Marketing Initiatives.
Here is an outline of what will be my approach towards marketing your film:
1. Firstly, Amazon and iTunes will not consider your film unless a known distributor pitches your film for them. Netflix being a more premium broadcaster will not consider your film unless it is really well known. So, the first step is to create a enough favourable noise around your film.
2. I would recommend starting a blog and writing about companion stories that aid your film. I am sure you would find enough supporters/sympathisers among local investigative journalists to create a sort of cult around your film.
3. It might also be a good idea to make your film available on Vimeo on Demand. Vimeo takes a 10% cut, but allows you to self-publish your film on a pay per view basis.
4. Once favourable opinion has been brewed, it is probably a good time to send in your film to the right festivals such that it gets known (e.g. Likes of Sundance, SXSW, Berlinale, Etc)
Since this effort is a long drawn one, I have quoted my engagement for 3 months, at approximately USD 400 per month.
