This project entails presenting a few rough designs of a perforated seat for the Neo Classical aluminum chair. The design must coordinate or compliment, but no compete with the existing chair back design (which is a diamond with a circle in the center). The design must be continuous as this will be eventually cast in aluminum. I am only looking for a design, I already have a pattern maker who will do the work of adding all the pattern details. I do not want a basic lattice design. This needs to be original and unique to the chair. The seat area is tapered, it is not a square area.
Provided images: existing chair with a boring slatted seat and cushion, PDF collage of designs that I think have some potential components to work with. Dolphin arm chair which we already make and the type of seat it uses, note on this seat that there are some perforations and some inscribed details. This is a good blend of creating detailing but having enough solid area for seating.
The size of the holes or perforations should be between 1/2" and 2" in size. The designer should consider that each one of these holes after the metal is cast will need to be filed or cleaned out, therefore the holes should not be overly complex or too small. Refer again to the dolphin chair for an acceptable number of holes and sizes.
