Hi I have used Unity quite a lot so I might be able to help on that front, I have yet to use Unreal Engine tho. I have thought my little brother on how to write games such as snake, tic-tac-toe or memory card. I have written card games, sandbox games, and even dabbled into RTS a bit as a solo developer. As such I might be able to help you in teaching your child on game programing.

I am using Unreal Engine for my choice of engine. It has visual programming(blueprints) and would be easier for childs to understand as well. I will try my best to teach your child. I can use both C++ & Blueprints.
