I want a basic flight information system with a touchscreen interface for small aircraft using off the shelf components that total under $500. Essentially, this will entail reading data from a gyroscope/accelerometer, compass, barometer, differential pressure sensor, and GPS to show location, heading, airspeed, attitude (pitch and bank), altitude, and groundspeed. Location would be shown using FAA geo-refernced .tiff maps freely available on faa.gov. Ultimately once this project is working I want to make it open source.
