Overview
Are you a Unity3D environment designer? We have an application that is a hiking simulator and we are currently looking for ideas for a variety of exciting 3D hiking environments or Virtual Worlds. Some ideas are National Parks, Canyons, Swamps, Mountains and Fantasy Worlds from your imagination. Here’s a sample of the current environment https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOIncWxVkhU.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This contest is only for environment IDEAS and the details of how you would do it and what would be included in it. This is NOT a contest where you will deliver a completed environment. We will review and award up to 4 ideas. Those ideas will become our property. You will be given the first opportunity to bid on the development of that idea. So, don’t enter this contest if you are not a Unity3D environmental developer.
Requirements
The app will eventually have a very large number of environments so we are looking for a wide variety of worlds. They can be realistic worlds, fantasy worlds or cartoon-ish worlds. The main requirement is that the world be FUN to hike. We only want a PLAN for a world. Sketch a map and make a PLAN for a world that has these characteristics:
• All worlds will be 2000 x 2000 pixels.
• They will have main trails that are about 6 feet (2 meters) wide.
• They will have a smaller number of hidden trails that the hiker has to discover. The hidden trails should be about 2-4 feet wide (1 meter).
• They will have interesting features to look at (ie. Plants, trees, rocks, mountains, rivers, beaches etc.)
• They will have animated features like moving water, wind, waterfalls, surf etc.
• They will have at least a few animated animals in the sky, water and/or on land.
• It should be a closed world in that you don’t run up to the edge and are stopped. The Island is easy it has water all around it. Be creative with mountain ranges or whatever that surrounds and encloses the environment.
Submission
Your submission should include the following:
1. The title of your world
2. Detailed description of the world you are submitting. Tell me (in English) what it is that makes this world a very fun place to hike around in.
3. A large sketch of your world. It should have arrows and labels indicating the following:
• Main Trails
• Hidden Trails
• Interesting landmarks
• Animated features
• Animal locations
• What sounds will you use in what areas
3. A few sketches or screen captures that indicate the view from selected points on a trail. You can also use existing photos to illustrate what you hope to create.
4. An estimate of the time it will take you to build the entire terrain and populate it with the features and animals you mentioned. Also, your total COST to create everything.

Hello. Only 3 days left. Then I will be deciding between #19 , #20 and #21. I really would like more world ideas and I will have to rethink how I present the next contest. I think a number of artists misunderstood my contest. This was not a skill contest about who has the best 3D skills and I did not want someone to create a whole world for a $75 prize, This was a contest to find one thing - A skilled 3D designer WITH creativity and imagination. The map in #19 is a little small. For comparison. Look at the map in the "Island Contest Entry Sample". That shows you how wide a 6 foot (2 meter) wide trail should look in a world that is 2000 x 2000. You do not have to totally create the world like #19 did, but at least give me a sketch or drawing of the map and create at least one 3D view from a specific spot.

#19 is the first complete entry. Please look at what she has done and follow that format. Don't make the same kind of world. Create a place from your own imagination that is fun to hike in. Give me a Title, Description, Map and a Screen Capture of one little spot. Also send me a message and tell me how much it would take for you to create the real thing.

Number 8 is a very good example of a view from the trail. This is an interesting style that I am ok with. You can see the trail in the screen capture and the view is from the hikers eye level.

Number7 is a very nice job and I have thought about a world where hikers hike underwater. One of the important parts of this contest is to find out if you can read my instructions in English. If we can't communicate back and forth then we can't work together. Please read the directions and submit the proper materials. I still don't have any entries that meet the requirements.

#5 and #6 are the level of quality I am looking for but, you do NOT have to create any 3D environments for this contest. I want to award the BEST idea and PLAN for a virtual world with trails that my players can hike through. I just want you to think of a world (not an Island), name your world, show me a sketch of why your world is interesting and tell me some of the features and animals that you will put in your world. THEN, tell me how much it would cost to build your world.

I'm getting a lot of 3D buildings. The world you propose can have some 3D buildings, ruins, bridges and other interesting stuff, but it should NOT be a city. It needs to be an outdoor area, either real or imagined.

  A single tree costs around $25-$50 for a 3D artist to make, you won't get amazing outdoor scenes for this price. Grass is normally around $20 a cluster and $100 a set. A good terrain mesh is around $100. Rise the price to $250 if you want good scenes.

It's a nice city, but not what I had in mind. This is not a video game. It is a Virtual Hiking Environment. Think of places you would like to hike. Cities aren't usually what hikers pick first. Natural features in interesting outdoor locations are what I am looking for. Think things like narrow mountain paths, amazing trees, narrow desert gorges, national park stuff, maybe the great wall of China with other Chinese locations or a Tropical Rainforest with amazing waterfalls.

  Thank you Patrick. I was afraid that might be the case. I totally expect to have to pay $800-$1200 for a completed world, but was hoping that I could get illustrated ideas for $50. I guess I'll wait and see. I might upgrade the price in a few days if I have to. Are you are world designer?
