You wake up, check emails on your phone while having a quick breakfast with your family. Then you get to the office and finish a report while in a call with a supplier. You think of yourself as a multitasking ninja, but have you ever felt like it’s just too much?

You go back to your hectic day and realize that you were constantly juggling to get several things done, but didn't finish all of them. Does it ring a bell? If the answer is yes, don't panic, you are not alone. Most people pride themselves on being awesome at multitasking, but unlike what you often think, multitasking is counterproductive.

The Journal Of Experimental Psychology published a study which found out that students were up to 40 percent slower to solve complicated math problems when they had to switch to other tasks. The same study found that multitasking has a negative physical effect, inducing the body to release stress hormones and adrenaline.

In addition, according to a study carried out by the Institute of Psychiatry of the University of London, the excessive use of technology reduces workers’ intelligence. “Those distracted by incoming email and phone calls saw a 10-point fall in their IQ - more than twice that found in studies of the impact of smoking marijuana,” said researchers.

So every time you multitask, you are not only making yourself extra busy, you are also losing productivity. You’re becoming less efficient and getting all stressed up, which damages your business and your well-being.

The question is, how do you stop doing this without compromising your business even more? We all have the same amount of hours in a day and often, they are not enough.

If you are feeling like you're in a daily battle against time and workload, don't multitask, get help from talented people. By hiring a specialist to give you a hand in completing your tasks, you save not only time and effort, you will also add value to your business. By working with freelancers, they’ll share their expertise and get your projects done with absolute fineness.

What are you waiting for? Hire a freelancer to help you get everything done and say goodbye to the downside of multitasking.
